PROF GUIDE

Main goal

The real fight is to coach students into joined-up-thinking, as this tends to be very difficult for them. They can often do the individual parts well enough (with theory being the hardest), but then struggle to keep all the mental balls in the air when they have to make them align. If you can coach them to do this here, they might start to learn a very valuable thing.

Examples of what joined-up-thinking might look like for this exercise

Example 1:

Insight: They are fearful they won’t know anyone at the park

Theory: Theory of planned behaviour: Change valence of potentially awkward social meetings at the park

Execution: Series of video ads about the adventure of meeting people in real space – people meet, are uncertain, take a risk, and become friends. Create fear of missing out on new adventures and friendships

Example 2

Insight: It’s hard to put down the phone because it is too tempting

Theory: Theory of planned behaviour: Increase perceived control in face of temptation

Execution: Make an app where people can set a calendar appointment that locks them out of non-emergency phone use for 30 minutes

…

The point isn’t whether either of these examples would work (maybe yes, probably no), but you can see how they line up the different elements.
