Are you ready to talk about music festivals?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Part 1:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Fiddler’s Green Festival<\/a> is an event for devotees of folk music that has been held in Rostrevor<\/a> Ireland for over 30 years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the first day of the festival every year, the attendees get together for a short hike. They start in the host village and walk up through the beautiful Irish countryside to reach the actual Fiddler’s Green: a spot on the mountain above, with gorgeous views of the hills and the sea. There, they hold a concert in which Irish folk music is played and sung#up<\/p>\n\n\n

Part 2:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
The Rebellion Festival<\/a> is the largest independent punk festival in the UK. It is held each year in Blackpool, England, and is a family-friendly all-ages event (children under 5 are free with an adult ticket) that pledges to have safe gigs for women (no sexual harassment) and a net zero policy.<\/p>\n\n\n

If these themes surprise you, they perhaps shouldn’t. Punk culture has featured gender equity and environmental consciousness since its inception – it arguably took them seriously before much of mainstream culture did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Your mission<\/strong>: Pretend that you are volunteering for the Rebellion Festival, and are trying to promote these two things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
a) Eco-friendly travel to arrive and depart (remember, net-zero!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
b) Encouraging people to join their “Street teams” to put up promotional materials, and to clean up any messes that may be left on the streets of Blackpool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Your messaging has to work for an audience of punks, so if you want to have any hope of success, you need to learn something about the punk subculture: Its codings, norms, and values. For a quick crash course, see this Wikipedia page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Never rely on Wikipedia for real market research. Ever. It can be fine as a quick starting point for a classroom exercise, but there are no guarantees on its accuracy, and it doesn't capture people's voice well.
