Humans find many creative ways to manage our emotions.

  • Why?
    • Mood repair
    • Mood maintenance
    • to manipulate ourselves into performing better (maybe)
  • How?
    • Psychologists have a lot of evidence about what works better or worse, but in CB there is
      1. Consuming emotions (to produce the desired state)
      2. “Retail therapy” (streams of goal achievement and a sense of control
        1. Impulsive buying can be enjoyable
        2. Compulsive buying is a trait where it reaches a destructive level in some people
      3. Self-gifts (often carefully thought out to be personally symbolic)
